Our Portland Crew, March 21
Parking lot transformation, Day 1
Groundwork Portland, in collaboration with AmeriCorps volunteers Lauren Senkyr and Carrie Jones, Hands on Portland, and DePave are assisting Mt Scott Learning Center in a parking lot transformation.  The old church the school is housed in has an unnecessarily large (and cold) parking lot.  Groundwork Portland is helping to break up the gravel and bring in the plants to make the school grounds more inviting and more sustainable.
March 21 was the first of two work days; this crew hauled a lot of dirt and rocks!
April 25, the volunteers will be back with plants and paint

MSLC is alternative education program to meet the special needs of our community’s at-risk youth. The majority of MSLC students come from low-income backgrounds and often struggle both socially and academically. Many of the students have learning disabilities and all have environmental distractions that make it essential that each student receive the individualized attention afforded by small class sizes.
Everyone has a right to a healthy, vital, livable community
